Show Notes:

Fright Night (2011)

  • Directed by Craig Gillespie

  • Written by Marti Noxon (based on Tom Holland’s script for the 1985 film)

  • Starring Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Toni Collette, David Tennant and Imogen Poots

  • Synopsis: When a teenage boy finally comes to terms with the fact that his neighbor is a vampire, it’s up to him to best the blood-sucker and save his family and friends.

  • More Info: When this movie was released in 2011 with an all-star cast and a reported $30 million dollar budget, it kind of flopped. Its reported box office total was only $41 million, and considering that the theaters take about half of that and that the budget does not include advertising cost, it’s safe to assume that this movie did not turn a profit. Maybe they shouldn’t have spent however much money it cost them to have Steven Spielberg himself assist with storyboards and editing. Or however much money they paid Colin Farrell, but he does make a great vampire (and a handsome one too).

  • Our Discussion: We discuss the dynamic duo of Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots who would later appear together in the 2015 nazi thriller Green Room, the tragic death of Anton Yelchin, the fact that this screenplay was written by a woman and how that may or may not have impacted some of the updates made to the original story, and Ashvin finally plugs his musical endeavors! And, of course, as usual we discuss what worked for us and what didn’t about this film.
